We have a new Restaurant and a new winner. The Maple Street Grille located at 165 Maple street in Florence Oregon! I went there last night and had the best Pot Roast I have ever had in my 55 years! I asked the help "what the best seller was at this point"? You guessed it, pot roast. On their small plate menu the Mac and Cheese made with some Bleu Cheese is also supposed to be a winner. I will check that one out next time! If you are going to be in Florence Oregon for supper,go to the Maple Street Grille and check them out! They currently are open 4-10 p.m. Closed on Sundays. Edwin K Bed and Breakfast

Before I moved to Florence a few years ago, this was a favorite Pet Free Smoke Free place that I enjoyed staying at. I visited there recently and found it to be as good if not better than my memories. The home was built in 1914 and moved a few blocks to its present location. If you stay here, I'm sure you can get the inn keepers to fill you in on the interesting details of this historical home. Being located in Old Town its only a couple blocks to to all the action.

NAR's New GREEN Designation

I was just notified that I have earned the GREEN designation. This is the newest designation reconized by the Nation Association of Realtors. I can now assist clients with info on Green home constuction and retrofitting. There are several ratings as to how green a home is. There are tax credit benifits too. This designation does not make me a know it all authority. If you have questions contact me, if I can't answer them, I will find out where the answers are. I believe GREEN is the up and coming direction that we are headed.

Best Thai Cuisine is located at 1565 ninth street in Florence. For the locals we are talking the old Hickories BBQ. The Phone number is 541-997-5229 I have been there a few times as they just opened recently in Oct. 2009 They also have brown rice if you ask. If you like Thai food you will be happy with this one!

$8,000 Tax Credit for first time home buyers

Now there is a true tax credit for first time home buyers. Unlike the past $7500. credit that had to be paid back. The word on the street is these can be used for down payments on FHA loans. I DON'T give legal advice,so so contact your accountant about this. This new credit has made it possible for buyers to purchase starter homes,thus freeing up cash to sellers who would like to move up in the market! Please help spread the word! I'm getting tired of eating spagetti with no sauce.

Chen's Family Dish

Chen's family dish in Florence Oregon has moved. Chen's just opened May 4Th 2009 in their new location at 3620 hwy 101 (formerly the doll house museum.) What an improvement in location and facility. The building and grounds are nice. Prices have stayed the same. A nice full lunch special can be had for less than $7.00. I didn't realize how much I went there until they closed for a few weeks to make the move. Glad they are Back!

Florence Oregon Rhododendren Festival 2009

Also known as Rhody Days. For 2009 it will be held May 15-17. Our little town of population 8,000 can swell to 40,000 plus. During this time there is something for everyong. The carnival will be here as well as food and craft vendors. The Elks have a great BBQ Chicken dinner not to be missed. Saturday will include a car show as well. If you are a Harley Fan head to bay street. Sunday about noon is the Grand Parade and Grand Finale to the festival. See you there.

Winter Folk Festival

In January the Florence Events Center known as the FEC by the locals,host a Winter Folk Festival. For 2010 its being held January 23+24. The festival consist of arts,crafts,music,pie contest,demonstrations and concert performances. For more info you can call the FEC at 541-997-1994 If your board sitting at home,come on down!

Thinking of doing something special for dinner tonight? If you like Italian food and want the best in food and ambience, Pomodori Ristorante is your answer. They are located on the corner of 7th and Maple St. next to the post office. Best to phone for reservations 902-2525 as they are a small and busy place. The Chicken Pomodori is one of my favorites. If you are buying, let me know and I’ll clear my schedule.

Lunch and recess were my best subjects in school. I’m still good at lunch but have traded recess for naptime. Today I want to mention three of my favorites here in Florence Oregon. For Chinese food, my favorite is Chen’s Family Dish.(Chen's family dish in Florence Oregon has moved. Chen's just opened May 4Th 2009 in their new location at 3620 hwy 101.) Phone 902-2020. They have some lunch specials for less than $7.00, and I have never had a bad meal there! For Mexican food, my favorite is Los Compadres located at 397 Hwy 101. Phone 997-1647. Come hungry, the platters are huge. If you like fish and chips the Seafood Station is the place, located at 1136 Hwy 101. Phone 997-8630. All these places also serve supper. In another blog I will address some dinner places. I like these and hope you will too.

Time for a Change

The politicians running for president are all saying its time for a change. I changed to a new house recently. Changing wives is bad idea. That leaves changing jobs. Great Breakfast Places in Florence Oregon

Dunes Café, located in the True Value parking lot, is the right choice if you need a big breakfast or you need big rig parking. They open at 5am and have large platters. Most Saturdays they have a prime rib breakfast special. If you’re looking for something a little different, Benny’s is an excellent choice. Located at the corner of 15th and Hwy 101, you can’t miss the aqua colored building. Try the pinto beans on biscuits, its better than it sounds. You can’t go wrong with the Benny’s scramble or the Eggs Benedict. Benny’s opens at 7am. They are sometimes closed on Tuesdays.
Another favorite of mine when it comes to a great spanish omolette and flax seed toast is Natures Corner located in one end of the Light House Inn Motel near the bridge. These are my favorite breakfast picks, and I hope they will become yours.

Hello everyone!

This blog is a new thing for me and for little old Florence Oregon.

I intend to cover the best places to eat, the best things to see and the best stuff to do here in our little slice of coastal heaven. Also I will probably let slip a few things NOT to do while here in Florence.

If you want to experience the best of the best without having to go through all the hassle of trial and error, I think that this blog can be a most useful resource to you. I’ll be updating often, and keeping you in touch with all the neat happenings in this town.
